72 Bian
The first Absolut limited edition created for the Chinese market, released in 2010 with the avant-garde artist Gao Yu and pressed to some 360,000 copies. Its name points to the Monkey King of “Journey to the West”, who masters seventy-two transformations — bian — to clear the obstacles on his pilgrimage. Gao Yu redraws the mythical figure in a surreal, almost cartoon register: a traditional panda turning into the Monkey King among smoky red clouds, with “Absolut” and 72 Bian set in Chinese red.
