Delaware
Tom Watkins draws Delaware in the hard, gouged lines of a woodcut: an artist's table on a red-and-white checked cloth, brushes in a cup, a crescent moon and fireworks in the window, and the bottle lying on its side with a horseman galloping through it. A book on the table names him, Caesar Rodney, the Delaware delegate whose overnight ride to Philadelphia in July 1776 carried his state's vote for independence, and whose likeness Delaware later put on its state quarter.
