Kurant

Absolut Kurant is the black currant flavour Absolut launched in 1992, the third after Peppar and Citron. It was chosen as a nod to a berry every Swede knows, and it nearly went out as Absolut Vinbär, the Swedish word for the fruit, until the name was judged too close to wine bar for foreign ears. The bottle changed with the range over the years, through new wording on the glass, a darker Kurant name, frosted glass and fresh artwork in the 2010s, while the flavour itself stayed one of the oldest in the family.

  1. Kurant 2016 2016 · 5 variants The third Kurant, with new artwork and Country of Sweden dropped from the logo.
  2. Kurant 2013 2013 · 7 variants The 2013 Kurant, on frosted glass with the text on the bottle rewritten.
  3. Kurant Be Intrigued 1992 · 7 variants A Kurant that differs from its predecessor in text and in colour — the words on the front are new, and Absolut Kurant is set in a darker shade.
  4. Kurant This Superb 1992 · 9 variants Black currant, and a deliberate piece of Swedishness: the berry is a staple of the country, and the 1992 launch was pitched as a nod to where the vodka comes from. It was very nearly called Absolut Vinbär, the Swedish word for it — until someone said it aloud in English and heard wine bar. Smooth and mellow on the fruit, with a tart edge.
